Rancho Cordova Ceremony Will Launch Road Construction
International Drive to Be Extended to Sunrise Boulevard

The ceremonial groundbreaking for the International Drive extension that includes the Folsom South Canal Bridge took place on Wednesday, December 2nd, at 10 a.m. in the vacant lot near the International Drive and Kilgore Road intersection in Rancho Cordova.

The quarter mile extension will be constructed on a currently undeveloped piece of land. When finished, it will be a six-lane thorough-fare, connecting Kilgore Road to Sunrise Boulevard and converting International Drive into a major regional arterial road. The project will include intersection improvements, bicycle lanes, and pedestrian facilities.

The project has regional significance as it will improve mobility and relieve congestion on Sunrise Boulevard and Highway 50 by providing a bypass to the highway between Sunrise Boulevard and Mather Field Road.

The $17 million project will be funded by federal, state, and local transportation funds. The project is anticipated to be completed in 2011. DeSilva Gates Construction is the project contractor. Participating in the groundbreaking ceremony were Rancho Cordova officials, including the Mayor, City Manager Ted Gaebler, and Public Works Director Cyrus Abhar.

The City of Rancho Cordova, CA was incorporated in 2003. City Hall is located at 2729 Prospect Park Drive; (916) 851-8700 (phone), (916) 851-8787 (fax), www.cityofranchocordova.org.
