Long Term Care Insurance For Federal Workers
Posted: 7/6/2011
It’s estimated that 70 percent of people over age 65 require some long-term care in their lifetime. However, the need can also arise at any time and any age.
(NAPSI)—During the current Open Season for the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP), which runs through June 24, 2011, actively at work federal and U.S. Postal Service employees (civilian workforce members) and their spouses/same-sex domestic partners, and active members of the uniformed services and their spouses, not currently enrolled in the program, are eligible to apply for coverage with abbreviated underwriting (applicants answer fewer health questions).
While the FLTCIP accepts applications from eligible individuals throughout the year, the 2011 FLTCIP Open Season offers more people the opportunity to apply with abbreviated underwriting. Applying could not be easier-whether online, over the phone or via a paper application.
To take advantage of this important opportunity and to learn more about the FLTCIP, visit www.LTCFEDS.com, where you can also apply online. The website has an Online Consultant Tool with video, cost calculators and a facility to help families design the plan that is right for them.

About long term care
Long term care is ongoing assistance with some of the most basic activities of daily living such as eating, bathing, dressing or getting in and out of bed or a chair. The need most often stems from disability, chronic illness, or cognitive impairment (such as Alzheimer’s disease) and is more common than you might think. In fact, 70 percent of people over age 65 require some long term care in their lifetime, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, National Clearinghouse for Long-Term Care Information (www.longtermcare.gov). But the need can also arise at any time and any age due to an accident or unexpected illness.
Most health insurance programs, including the FEHB Program, TRICARE and TRICARE For Life, provide little or no coverage for long term care. And long term care services can be very expensive.
For eligible members of the federal family, the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program is a solution designed to help meet these needs, securing their future by offering financial protection, important stay-at-home benefits, and professional support every step of the way.
About the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program:
The Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program was established by an act of Congress in 2000 and was designed to meet the specific needs of the federal family. The FLTCIP provides industry-leading benefits and offers flexible options that allow enrollees to tailor coverage to meet their needs.
The FLTCIP is administered by Long Term Care Partners and underwritten by John Hancock Life & Health Insurance Company under a contract with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.
Certain medical conditions, or combinations of conditions, will prevent some people from being approved for coverage. You need to apply to find out if you are eligible for this coverage.
