FAIR OAKS, CA (MPG) - Everyone knows chickens have a long-time history in the community and on Sept. 17 they were celebrated at the 17th annual Fair Oaks Chicken Festival. Hosted by the Fair Oaks Recreation & Park District (FORPD), thousands of chicken-loving visitors turned out to enjoy the event at Fair Oaks Park.
“The festival is an opportunity to showcase community pride and provide free or low-cost entertainment for people of all ages,” said Mary Stoakley, Recreation Coordinator, FORPD.
Event highlights included a Cluck ‘n Crow Contest, Cornhole Tournament, and the GREAT Chicken Decorating Contest. Kids especially loved meeting FORPD mascot Rocky the Rooster and having their pictures taken with him.
Todd Morgan & The Emblems and the band Cherrybomb provided music throughout the afternoon. Community groups and vendors were on-hand to showcase local goods and services.
FORPD would like to thank event sponsors: Raley’s, SMUD, 99.5 K-Love, and River City Pavers. Event partners included the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce, Orangevale/Fair Oaks Grange #354, Fair Oaks Rotary Foundation, SactoMoFo, Kiwanis Club Orangevale-Fair Oaks, Shadow Glen Riding Stables, Bach to Rock Folsom, and the Sacramento Sheriff’s Activities League.
