SACRAMENTO REGION, CA (MPG) – With Veterans Day approaching on Nov. 11, there are a variety of events taking place across town offering special ways to honor and thank veterans.
Rio Linda’s annual flag display is taking place on Veterans Day, Nov 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Depot Park with a ceremony beginning at 11:11 a.m. Depot Park is at 6730 Front St, Rio Linda.
Sylvan Cemetery in Citrus heights will be holding a Veterans Day Service at 11 a.m. at the gazebo. Sylvan Cemetery is at 7401 Auburn Blvd., Citrus Heights.
In Rancho Cordova, flags will line Folsom Boulevard from Nov. 8 to 12. You can also pay a tribute to the sacrifices made by American Armed Forces Veterans by taking part in the Veterans Day Blood Drive on Nov. 12 at the Rancho Cordova City Hall. The blood drive is by appointment only from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Schedule your appointment now at donors.vitalant.org.
Head to the Aerospace Museum for Open Cockpit Day on Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Join the museum for patriotic-themed crafts, an opportunity to write letters to veterans and enjoy a day of family-friendly activities. The event is included with a general admission ticket.
The annual Veterans of Foreign Wars Veterans Day Parade takes place in West Sacramento, beginning at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at 1100 Clarendon Street to West Acre Road. The parade will end at Park and Stone Boulevard. For more information about the parade, visit: westsacvfw.com/veterans-day-parade
The annual Wayne Spence Folsom Veterans Day Parade in Folsom will begin at 9 a.m. at the corner of E. Bidwell Street and Montrose Drive, and concludes at City Lions Park, where a brief ceremony will honor veterans. The parade will include floats, marching bands and classic cars.
The Sacramento VA Medical Center will host a special ceremony to honor and celebrate veterans. The event will begin at 10 a.m. Sacramento VA Medical Center is at 10535 Hospital Way, Mather, CA.
Additionally, California State Parks will offer free admission to 142 state parks for U.S. service members and their families. A variety of parks will be participating including Sutter’s Fort State Historical Park, Half Moon Bay State Beach and Armstrong Redwoods state natural reserve.
