CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) – On Jan. 15, Elda “Eldie” Troup of Carmichael celebrated her 103rd birthday. Elda was presented with 103 birthday cards at Libbee’s Hair Salon, 6919 Fair Oaks Blvd, her salon of the past five years. Birthday balloons, flowers and an overflowing basket of cards were waiting for Elda at the salon, recognizing a significant achievement for the long-term Carmichael resident.

Elda moved to Carmichael in 1958 and worked for the Franchise Tax Board for 25 years. She said she remembers bringing her husband, Frank Troup to Libbee’s Hair Salon back when it was still a barbershop.

The birthday card project was organized by Fanica Trice, Elda’s long-time hairdresser. “We ended up receiving over 150 cards,” Trice said.

Birthday cards for Elda came in from all over the community and beyond after a Facebook post by hairdresser Paul Gibson gained traction.

One of the salon’s hairdressers, Paul Gibson, posted on Facebook asking community members to send in cards. The post gained some traction and before long, cards ended up flowing in from all over the country, even Texas, wishing Elda a happy birthday.

In addition to receiving birthday cards, Elda received season tickets to both the Las Vegas Raider and the A’s, her favorite sports teams.

Throughout her life, Elda has enjoyed traveling and has visited every U.S. state. Her adventures around the globe have taken her places like New Zealand, where she’s traveled to four times.

Over the years, she's seen Carmichael grow and evolve and she fondly remembers, “When Madison only went as far as Manzanita.”

Elda’s advice for longevity is: “Have a good attitude about everything.”
