SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) – As Sacramento nonprofit Women’s Empowerment celebrates 25 years helping more than 2,000 Sacramento women and their 4,000 children break the generational cycle of homelessness, the nonprofit has launched a fundraising campaign called Together We Rise to ensure it can meet the new and evolving needs of local women and children. “Over the past 25 years, this community has come together to empower thousands of Sacramento women to bring their families out of homelessness in the face of an unexpected recession, global pandemic and housing crisis,” said Lisa Culp, executive director, Women’s Empowerment. “As we face continued repercussions from these challenges over the next 25 years, as well as new obstacles, our Together We Rise campaign will ensure we have the resources needed to fully equip women and children to rise from homelessness and reach their goals.”
Women’s Empowerment is the most comprehensive job-readiness program in the Sacramento area designed specifically to help women break the generational cycle of homelessness for themselves and their children. Each woman begins with a nine-week employment-readiness and empowerment program so she can secure a safe home, steady job and improved health for her whole family. From free transportation assistance and an onsite child development center to group classes and one-on-one work with a social worker, housing navigator, job developer and volunteer career mentor, each woman receives the tools she needs to begin her rise from homelessness.
Each woman who graduates from the nine-week program can return for services at any point in her life when she needs additional tools, including paid job training, transitional workforce housing, financial coaching and more.
Women’s Empowerment is funded through private donations from the community and grants. To learn more and make a donation: www.womens-empowerment.org.
