SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) – The American River Burger Battle is returning to Discovery Park from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 16. Eight local chefs and two fire departments will compete for the title of best burger in Sacramento. Attendees can dine on unlimited mouthwatering burgers prepared by the competing chefs, sip on local brews, listen to live music from Handsome Devil, play lawn games and help decide who reigns supreme by casting their vote for the People’s Choice winner.

“We are so excited for our second annual American River Burger Battle. We have a talented line-up of chefs competing this year, including last year’s Judge’s Choice Winner, Sam Shafer, and the People’s Choice Winner, Pedro Depina,” said Dianna Poggetto, executive director of the American River Parkway Foundation.

This year, the competing chefs include Sam Shafer, representing the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel; Pedro Depina, representing 7th Street Standard; Michael Fagnoni, representing Hawk’s Public House and Moksa Barrel House; Scott Ostrander, representing Origami Asian Grill and Gami Burger; Matt Brown, representing Husick’s by Forester; Gregory Desmangles, representing Good Neighbor; Anthony Contreras, representing The Firehouse Restaurant; Nickolas Duren, representing Druthers Sutter Park; Sacramento Metro Fire; and Sacramento City Fire.

The celebrity judges will include District 6 Assemblywoman Maggy Krell, District 4 Councilman Phil Pluckebaum, PBS KVIE's Abridged Senior Food Editor Benjy Egel, KCRA 3 Meteorologist Tamara Berg and Sacramento food influencer Alexis Frost. The judges will decide the Judge's Choice winner, while attendees will vote for the People's Choice winner.

“Each chef brings something different to the competition while showcasing what makes Sacramento a unique culinary destination. We’re excited to see who wins, but we’re even more excited to use this community event to support a good cause,” Poggetto said. “All ticket proceeds support the American River Parkway Foundation’s programs bringing children, families and seniors to the Parkway.”

Tickets are all inclusive. Tickets are $75, which includes unlimited burgers and refreshments. VIP tickets are $150, which includes the standard perks plus early entry at 4 p.m., access to the VIP area, specialty cocktails and a chance to hang out with the celebrity judges.
