ORANGEVALE, CA (MPG) - A growing number of local residents are asking for a helping hand, and Helping Hands OV is calling on community members to step up.
So far in 2026, the volunteer-run nonprofit has received 86 requests for assistance with small household and outdoor projects. Volunteers have completed 49 of those requests, providing more than $15,800 in donated services to low-income neighbors in the community.
Helping Hands OV connects low-income families, seniors, veterans, individuals with disabilities and others experiencing financial hardship with volunteers who can help with small but meaningful tasks. Projects may include light yardwork, minor home repairs, fence repairs, changing light bulbs and other household tasks that can become difficult or unaffordable for someone in need.
But with requests continuing to come in, Helping Hands OV needs more volunteers to keep up with the demand.
“We can do even more with your help,” the organization said.
Volunteering does not require a major time commitment. Community members can share their skills and choose opportunities that fit their abilities and availability. Whether you can lend a hand for one project or volunteer regularly, your time can make a meaningful difference for a neighbor.
Helping Hands OV is also seeking local blue-collar businesses interested in partnering with the organization. Landscapers, handymen, plumbers, electricians, tree trimmers, contractors and other skilled professionals are encouraged to get involved by discounting or donating time or services to help neighbors in need.
Community members are also welcome to attend Helping Hands OV’s monthly meetup and meeting, held at 6 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month. Locations change from month to month, so those interested should check the calendar at helpinghandsov.org or visit facebook.com/HelpingHandsOV for the latest meeting location and details.
Helping Hands OV is a volunteer-driven nonprofit built around a simple mission: connecting our community one hand at a time.
