FAIR OAKS, CA (MPG) - The 5th Annual and 1st virtual “Best of Fair Oaks” premiered on YouTube Thursday, January 21st. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and mandated guidelines this event would have taken place live at Northridge Country Club. Nevertheless, the show did go on!

Through countless zoom meetings and hours of planning, the Fair Oaks Youth Outreach (FOYO) decided to showcase this year's recognized services and businesses of Fair Oaks through a virtual platform for all to enjoy safely from their homes. During a time of trials and tribulations we wanted to ensure small businesses and services were recognized for all the good they do in our community.

Members of the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce (FOCC) and FOYO were filmed announcing our 51 categories at numerous locations around Fair Oaks such as Bella Vista Highschool, Phoenix Park, The Fair Oaks Village and many more. Our videos were then edited together with music and sponsored commercials by FOYO member Matthew Mason. The FOCC and FOYO did a great job promoting the event through social media, email invites and daily reminders to register for this event. On the night of the premiere, we had a fantastic turn out of 150 registrants to attend the event.

Please visit YouTube to take a look at our fabulous event at https://youtu.be/.JdMDYe8-2Xg. Feel free to donate to our youth scholarship fund in order to help our young leaders with financials in college! Although we wish we could have been with you all in person, having a virtual ceremony allowed for us to try new things such as filming at new locations, reciting facts about our nominees and lovely town and the opportunity to hear from our sponsors!

We would like to recognize a few names who helped make this exciting event one to remember. Thank you to the following, we could have not done it without your support:

I Love Pie Bake Shop, French in the Village, Katie Yount State Farm Insurance, Sacramento Waldorf School, The Recognition Group, The UPS Store Gold River, Freedom Insurance Services and Buck Wealth Management. A special recognition to the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce for their constant guidance and mentorship, the American River Messenger for helping us share our stories and VoterFly where votes were powered by and tallied.

If you know anyone ages 12-20 looking to help give back to the community, gain community service hours, make friends and work alongside the FOCC, consider joining the Fair Oaks Youth Outreach (FOYO)!  Follow @fairoaksyouth and @myfairoaks on Instagram for up-to-date information about what is happening in our community!
